Facebook Tips - Privacy

Recently, I asked “redpoppy” (Pirates - Bozo’s Brigade) if he would consider upgrading the faceless option that Facebook provides, if you don’t submit a profile picture. In fact, I asked the whole group to examine their profile picture because that’s how the rest of the Facebook community views you. It doesn’t have to be your picture. I like this one a lot.

Mac is our cute little friend on the right. He’s a lot more colourful than Facebook’s default. Mac, like all good guard dogs, stands ready to protect his new found master. I bet he would probably lick your face to death if you showed up at his door. “Redpoppy” informs me that Mac arrived on Christmas day and I bet he was the best present under the tree.

For whatever reason, “red” chooses not to show his picture. That is his choice and we should all respect that. But it tells us a little something about “red” if you happen to see his picture in “Find A Friend” or someone else’s Friend list. “Red” still chooses who he wants to be friends with.

Here’s some other things you can do to adjust the privacy level in Facebook to your level of comfort. I have a friend that I asked to sign up in Facebook and his comment was “I’m not sure if I’m ready to bare my soul to the world.” He has a point. If you don’t go into the privacy settings in the menu bar and adjust them they default to almost everybody. So go in there and adjust them. A lot of mine are Friends only, some Just Me and basic information I make available pretty freely.

Also, go in and change your Notifications settings. Turn most of the them off, otherwise you are generating spam on other people’s Facebook News Feed - Home and your email box.

At the other end, you can go to your News Feed - Home and check the options box next to each feed and change to less or more about specific people. It will reduce the feeds a lot more. Also go in and change every game you play to “Never Send Notices” and “Only Me”. You do this when you are playing the game and the option will appear as a drop down under Settings.

Hey Mac, you wanna’ go outside. That’s OK bud. That’s pretty much all newspapers are good for anymore, anyway.
