Tribal Wars - Playing Tips

Published by bozoplay at 12:07 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

This article is intended for those individuals currently playing this game. It is written by someone just playing the game. The information is intended for those just starting the game although others may find useful information in the items to follow. It will be updated periodically. Consider it a condensed help file.

Last update Dec. 17/08

  1. Avoid the temptation to start your own tribe. Concentrate on farming which can be defined as the act of taking resources from other players. Barbarians’ villages are a good place to farm because they have no tribe members. Just one against one.
  2. Walls provide defence and improve the defensive strength of your troops in the village.
  3. Scout before you attack to determine what forces you should send to farm. One scout is usually enough.Strong walls will result in the death of a scout and no information on the village. (Check Reports)
  4. Wait to buy the Premium package until you reach 500 points. You will receive a trial package at that point. You will have amassed enough of the understanding of the game to utilize it properly.
  5. Troops - Build Spears and Light Cavalry first because they carry more resources. Axemen should be sent along to counter any troops or walls. They are best used as offensive weapons. Swords should be built for defensive strength. The Help menu will give you their overall strengths. Look under Unit Overview.
  6. Use the mail option to converse with other tribe members. Ask questions of players with experience to learn more about tactics. This subject is open to each player’s interpretation. That’s what makes the game so interesting.
  7. Tribal Forum - Only use it for important matters. The little blue star will drive you crazy. If you need to joke or poke fun at someone, use mail.
  8. Market - Initially you can gain resources by offering surplus resources at a premium but make the quantity low so as to disguise the exchange rate (offer 100 units for 150 return - it will add up over time) Later on in the game, you will have to reduce the exchange rate.
  9. Market -Your market quotes should be in multiples of 1,000 or less. Each merchant can only hold 1,000 units. Quoting 1,00 for 1,200 results in you using 1 cart and your buyer 2. He is not likely to buy this because it is unattractive.  This quote should be changed to 800 for 1,000. You get the extra units without wasting an almost empty cart. When supply is low on the market you stand a better chance of getting a “handling charge”. Buy highly discounted offers whenever possible. Think of it as a small attack with no losses and you committed no troops.
  10. Farming calculation - View your scouting report. A calculator could be handy here. The windows pop up is my preference. My keyboard has hot button for it. Look at total resources scouted. Divide by 25 for spears, 80 for LC (Light Cavalry), Add 10% for additional resources that could be made before your attack arrives. (unless, of course, someone beats you to it)
  11. Farm with 1 scout - This will help you to determine the villages current status and whether you left any resources behind.
  12. Paladin - Carries 100 units - Send with LC’s and Scout for fast attack
  13. Your troop count should be close to 1:1 measured against your point total. The Farm building must be upgraded to keep up with this growth. Offensive vs. Defensive ratio is a matter of player’s preference and playing style.
  14. Starting in the game, your first priority is building a Paladin. Concentrate on resources. Wood and Iron are usually more important than clay at many points in the game. Build up your headquarters and Smithy in order to be able to build Barracks.
  15. Build spears first, then axemen. Farm barbarians (greyed-out villages) until you can build a stable.
  16. Build scouts to “visit” other players villages to determine where the best return will be with the least resistance. A scout sent with an attack will tell you the village levels and whether any resources were left behind because you didn’t have enough carrying capacity.
  17. LC’s are the best farming unit. They carry 50 units each. Use them with your Paladin to do faster trips. Farm with spears close to home. Don’t forget axemen, if they have troops/wall.
  18. Swords and archers are mostly defensive. Build some and keep them in your village for potential attacks.
  19. Continue to build resources. It is important to build warehouse and the hiding place to increase your resource capabilities.
  20. Watch your farm/population carefully.Keep upgrading while still building troops. Alternating back and forth is not a bad idea in the early parts of the game.
  21. Scouting - A faster way to scout which farms to go to, is to set up each as a favourite. Click on the map and check add to favourites. Send troops. Instead of attacking this one, click on favourites. Select a scout or more if the farm has walls or troops, and select attack and then OK. Repeat until you have done all favourites. Good way to start your day, if you have no recent reports. Send spears to the closest, LC’s farther away.
  22. Scouts - If you find your scouts are getting killed and getting no village information, it is likely that your opponent has more scouts than you on that attack. Try sending more. They could also have a well developed wall which will provide defence. Most players don’t consider the scout important because it has no offensive value. Scouting before an attack saves troops. That is a good investment. Scouts in the village can block the opposing scouts from viewing the level makeup of the village.

Have fun!
