Tuesday - Not Much Happening in the Sports World
Tuesday
Not Much Happening in the Sports World
Today’s headline, here in Toronto, in the sports section of the local paper is talking about laying off staff in the Jays front-office. I guess they’re too embarrassed, like the rest of the hockey community, to comment on the mindless actions of an active player degrading women. This topic was relegated to sidebar status which is probably all the exposure that this act of grandstanding should receive.
Why is it that Tuesday is so quiet. Well, when you think about it, the weekend’s a long way off. John Madden is on a bus going to the next game. The NASCAR haulers are on they’re way back to the shop or the next racetrack. The golfers are on a airplane going somewhere nice and warm. It’s true that there are other professional sports that take place during the week, but I think their overexposure is a sign of why their attractiveness is dwindling.
Sports are supposed to be about a game, not business. We used to consider the weekend leisure time so we had time for sports. We even played them. We shopped on Saturday because the stores weren’t open on Sunday.
The times have changed.
