Newspapers
Just another Dinosaur
One of the reasons dinosaurs disappeared from the face of the earth, is that they had difficulty in adapting to their environment. And so it shall be for the once almighty newspaper dynasty.
Today’s readers aren’t interested in the volumes of filler that occupy most of the space in today’s daily rag. They are most certainly a terrible waste of our rapidly dwindling resources (trees, ink, gas to for delivery, etc.) There is a vast array of electronic alternatives that are quickly replacing the old tabloid.
We are selective in what we read. Short and simple seems to be the rule today.
I get the newspaper delivered for free on a daily basis—unsolicited and unwelcome. Occasionally, my neighbour will ask to read it, but he is 73. Sadly, that market won’t be around sometime in the distant future. My trips to the recycling bin are more frequent—mostly made up of sparsely read newspapers.
I do read the local bi-weekly paper but, I will confess that it’s limited to front page, classifieds and the weekly grocery store advertisement to see what’s on sale. Giving me that “free trial subscription” will be as successful as those annoying telemarketers that constantly harass us all.
To put it in simple marketing terminology, the newspaper is a product on the last legs of its life cycle. It will be replaced by something better.
I think one of them is what you are reading right now.
